The company, which has managed this contract from 2019, will continue to operate nine WWTPs, 27 pumping stations and more than 33 kilometres of sewers.
ACCIONA has again been awarded the contract for the operation and maintenance of the sanitation systems under Lot 3 of the Bilbao Bizkaia Water Consortium (CABB). The company previously had this contract, with its renewal reaffirming its commitment to the efficient management of water resources in the region.
With a budget of around €12.4 million and an initial duration of three years - extendable for a further two years - the contract covers the management of around 12.8 million cubic metres of wastewater per year, serving a population equivalent of 220,000.
The lot awarded to ACCIONA includes the operation of nine wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), 27 pumping stations and 33.5 kilometres of sewers to ensure the correct treatment of wastewater in the municipalities of Durango, Elorrio, Markina, Lekeitio, Ispaster, Ondarroa, Ereño, Aulesti and Munitibar.
Among the facilities, the Arriandi WWTP stands out. It is the largest in the group of peripheral WWTPs of the CABB, with an annual flow rate of over 12 million cubic metres to provide a service to 124,300 people.
This new contract is a key element in the protection of river ecosystems in the Bizkaia region, while ensuring that treated effluents meet the strictest quality standards.
The improvements implemented by ACCIONA will contribute to the operational efficiency of the plants and reduce their environmental impact, consolidating the region as a benchmark in sustainable water management. ACCIONA will also purchase a total of fifteen 100% electric vehicles (10 vans and 5 cars) and one hybrid vehicle to carry out the service.
