BIOMASS ENERGY
ACCIONA promotes electric biomass solutions throughout the value chain of this renewable technology: design, construction and operation of large biomass plants for electricity generation.
In 2002, the company became a pioneer in this type of energy in southern Europe by connecting the Sangüesa biomass plant (Navarre, Spain), which, with 30.2 MW capacity, is a benchmark for the sector. The experience gained by the company since the early stages of biomass development has strengthened its leadership position, particularly in raw material supply logistics.
Our three biomass plants generate more than 400 GWh a year—equivalent to the electricity consumption of around 100,000 households—and avoid about 175,000 tonnes of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere by replacing fossil fuel generation. ACCIONA Energía is currently building its fourth plant in Logrosán (Cáceres, Spain), with a capacity of 49.9 MW.
Biomass energy helps us design a better planet by developing rural areas, structuring land, fighting against forest fires and establishing itself as a carbon neutral technology – its CO2 emissions have a neutral balance as it is equivalent to the CO2 absorbed by the plants used as raw materials during their life.
More information about our biomass activity is available on the ACCIONA Energía website.

From the point of view of CO2 emissions, biomass has a neutral effect on the atmosphere Its CO2 emissions have a neutral balance. We have three operating plants that generate electricity equivalent to the consumption of 118,000 homes per year.
