HYDRO X PRIX (13-14 JUL)
Scotland is populated by rugged mountains, valleys, coastlines, lochs, rivers, forests such as Caledonian, and receives mild temperatures and rainfall almost all year round.
However, recent decades are bringing increased temperatures and varying rainfall patterns that challenge the country's biodiversity.
Extreme E returns for the Hydro X Prix to the former Glenmuckloch opencast coal mine, a paradigmatic setting that represents the transition from fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas to clean energy sources such as the sun and wind. This mining operation is undergoing a transformation to become a pumped storage hydroelectric plant.
Under the Legacy programme, Extreme E is promoting a project in Scotland to regenerate the River Nith area to protect salmon stocks (which have been declining in Scottish rivers). Measures to successfully implement this programme include the planting of native trees along the banks of the river.
